Accessibility

Access is for everyone. HelloSpore is committed to a website that works for people who make up the full range of human diversity — so anyone can conduct their research or grow a bounty of functional or culinary mushrooms. It’s a commitment we take seriously and return to often: accessibility is ongoing work, not a one-time task.

Our standard

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across hellospore.com — the reading experience, finding products, and completing a purchase. New and changed parts of the site are built and reviewed against that standard.

What we do

  • Full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator, and a “skip to main content” link.
  • Clear names on every button, link, and form field, and meaningful alternative text on images.
  • Announcements for changes — form errors, adding to cart, loading — so access technology doesn’t miss them.
  • Color contrast that meets AA, with meaning never conveyed by color alone.
  • Plain-language summaries of the research, with a glossary, so the science is easier to follow.
  • Dialogs such as site search and the cart that manage focus and close with the Escape key.
  • Automated accessibility checks in our build pipeline, plus a weekly site-wide scan.
  • Manual testing of key journeys with a keyboard and access technology, and we welcome your feedback.

Report a barrier

If any part of hellospore.com is hard for you to use — with access technology or for any other reason — please tell us. Reports go straight to our accessibility lead; we treat them as priority issues and will work with you to get you the information or product you need. Sharing the page and how you were browsing helps us reproduce and fix it quickly.

Ongoing work

Accessibility is never “done.” We audit the site regularly, fix issues as we find them, and keep improving. If you notice something we’ve missed, your report directly shapes what we fix next.
